IQ test guide: ten domains, a thin sample, and a two-week practice plan

Last updated: September 22, 2026

The SumnuIQ IQ test is a thirty-question sample across ten domains, mixed fresh each time you start. People open it because they want a number. The number is real as a score of this quiz. It is not a clinical IQ, and the useful part of the result is usually the category bars, not the headline.

What the ten domains actually are

The bank is split into logic, patterns, math, verbal items, short-term memory, spatial problems, puzzles, emotional judgment calls, creative prompts, and a few timed decisions. You see three items from each. Logic and patterns weigh a bit more in the final number than memory, spatial reasoning, or the decision items. The exact weights are on the methodology page. Three items is enough to notice a stumble. It is not enough to rank your ability in that domain against other people.

The session is not adaptive. You are not promoted to harder items because you got the last one right. Everyone who finishes gets the same kind of mix, in a shuffled order, with shuffled choices. A twenty-second clock runs on every item. Timeouts count as misses. That clock rewards people who commit. It punishes careful checking, and it punishes anyone reading in a second language who needs a few extra seconds to parse the sentence. If that is you, the number is partly a reading-speed score. Say so when you tell a friend the result.

How to read the 70–160 number

Percents from the ten domains are weighted and stretched so a perfect paper is 160 and a paper with no correct answers is 70. The band label underneath (“Top 12%” and similar) is a fixed nickname for that range. It is not calculated from SumnuIQ players, and it is not the percentile table from a normed IQ test. A badge such as Pattern Master or Curious Mind is the first rule in a list that your category scores happened to match. The intelligence-type name points at your two strongest domains in this sitting. Take another draw tomorrow and the type can change, because three items move a lot.

A high number does not mean you are gifted, hireable, or finished learning. A low number does not mean you are bad at school, work, or thinking. Both numbers are silent about health, effort, and the work you do when nobody is timing you. The emotional and creativity items are especially easy to over-read: they ask which option the quiz writer preferred, and reasonable people disagree with the key.

Limits you should keep in the same breath as the score

The item bank is finite. A second and third attempt reuse it. Some of the lift you see is memory of explanations, which is a fine way to learn and a poor way to claim a new IQ. Tab-switching is watched, and three switches flag the run so it stays off the session leaderboard. That leaderboard also includes sample rows that shipped with the page. It is a local toy, not a world list. Sharing a card is optional. If you share, keep the entertainment disclaimer in the caption.

A two-week plan that does not spoil the quiz

Week one, skip the SumnuIQ button. Spend fifteen minutes a day on one domain family and write the rule in a sentence before you check an answer. Monday and Tuesday: number sequences from a newspaper puzzle page. Wednesday: a short verbal analogy set in any puzzle book. Thursday: a spatial task, such as sketching a route from memory and then checking the map. Friday: one logic grid, the kind where people, places, and times have to line up. Weekend: rest. The clock is the skill you are not training yet.

Week two, add the clock. Give yourself twenty seconds on paper for six mixed items a day, then review only the ones you missed and write why the explanation works. On day eleven, take the SumnuIQ test once. Read every explanation. Do not retake it the same night. On day fourteen, retake it once if you want a new draw, and compare category bars rather than worshipping the profile number. If one domain is still weak, that domain’s guide on this site — logic or verbal — is a better next step than another immediate retake.

Related reading sits on About if you want the publisher and the update policy, and on the results screen after you finish, which walks through this same score in the context of the badges you just earned.
